PHILADELPHIA -
Saint Joseph's University senior shortstop Cara Deldeo has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Softball Second Team, officials from CoSIDA announced today.
Chosen by members of the CoSIDA, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average to be eligible. Deldeo became eligible for Academic All-America consideration after being named to the Academic All-District II First Team.
This season, the Dagsboro, Delaware native helped the Hawks to the Atlantic 10 Championship to its fifth-straight and 10th overall appearance. Batting .269 on the year, Deldeo led the Hawks with six home runs, one triple and 61 total bases. She finished third in hits with 35 and fourth in RBIs with 22 as Saint Joseph's finished the season fourth in the A-10 with an 8-6 conference record and 21-23 overall record.
An interdisciplinary health services major, Deldeo graduated this past May with a 3.96 grade-point-average. While stellar in the classroom, Deldeo provided consistency for the Hawks on the field over her four seasons. A career .296 batter, Deldeo completed her career fourth all-time in program history with 107 runs and sixth in hits at 171.
Earlier this month, the Hawk standout was honored with her third consecutive selections to both the Academic All-District II First Team and named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team. Deldeo is the first Saint Joseph's softball student-athlete to be named to an Academic All-America Team since Brandie Adams was selected to the third team in 2003.
