Saint Joseph's Honors Deldeo and Vandegrift as Top Senior Scholars

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's University has named Cara Deldeo and Andrew Vandegrift the recipients of the Senesky Awards given to the top graduating male and female senior scholar athletes.

Deldeo, a four-year starter at shortstop for the Hawks' softball team, earned Second Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors in 2005. A three-time Academic All-Atlantic 10 Conference and First Team Academic All-District 2 selection, the Dagsboro, Del. product (Indian River H.S.) batted .269 this past season with 19 runs swcored, six doubles, six home runs and 21 RBI. She finished her career ranked among SJU's career leaders in several categories, including ranking fourth all-time in runs scored (107) and sixth in both hits (171) and stolen bases (26). The senior is an interdisciplinary health services major with a 3.96 GPA.

A three-year standout on the Hawk men's track team, Vandegrift participated in both the long sprints during his career. As a senior, the Norristown, Pa. native's (Bishop Kennedy-Kenrick H.S.) captured Second Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference honors during the indoor season as a member of SJU's Distance Medley Relay. Outdoor he was a member of the DMR that posted SJU's season best time at the Penn Relays. The senior food marketing major boasts a 3.57 GPA.

Both athletes were named to the University's Dean's list and were members of both the SJU Athletic Director's and A-10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls.
