The Hawks continue to show strong performances from veteran and younger runners alike as Saint Joseph's went on to place third Friday with 69 points. The Hawks managed to score in six out of the seven events they competed in and earned two first place finishes and seven top-three finishes.
Sophomores Richard Ryan and Matthew Weaver pulled in the first place tallies. Ryan led the way in the mile with a time of 4:29.50 followed by freshman Justin Heinze in second (4:29.96) and senior Dave Masse placing third (4:30.64).
Weaver placed first in the 400m with a time of 52.73 earning 10 points for the Hawks. Fellow teammates rounded out the top five as freshman Zachary Houck placed third (53.92), junior Mike Tatara place fourth (54.14), and freshman Tom Katan placed fifth (54.32).
Katan, Tatara, and Weaver also showed strong performances in the 4x400m. Weaver and Katan ran the first two legs for the SJU "A" team, along with freshman Brendan Kearney and senior Kyle Laudadio, that placed second with 3:36.10. Tatara ran on the SJU "B" team that placed fourth.
Chris Alexander had an impressive day in the field finishing second in the long jump (21-01.50) and third in the triple jump (40-06.75).
Saint Joseph's finished behind Kutztown University (123 points) and Ursinus College (82 points) among eight schools competing for the day.
The Hawks return to action Friday January 27th and Saturday January 28th at the Penn State National Invitational.
