Hawk Men Place Fourth, Three Hawks Claim A-10 Indoor Titles

KINGSTON, RI - Strength and numbers in the middle distance, including wins by seniors Andrew Thomas and Matt Petrocci, and a first place finish by junior Teddy Meyers helped the Saint Joseph's men's track team to a fourth place finish at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at Mackal Field House on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.

Thomas and Petrocci led the Hawks in the middle distance. Thomas captured the 500 in a time of 1:04.43 and was followed closely over the finish line by Joe Witiw who placed third in 1:07.27. Petrocci, meanwhile took home the title at 800m (1:53.09) and SJU added additional points as Brendan Kearney placed third in the event (1:56.42). Petrocci and Thomas also captured All-A-10 honors running the second and fourth legs, respectively, of SJU's 4x400 relay that placed second overall.

In addition to those two events, the Hawks also placed first and third in teh 5,000m. Meyers took home the title in a time of 14:40.89, while sophomore Will Rowland followed him across the line in 14:57.11. SJU added a third scorer in the event as senior Dave Masse placed sixth in 15:02.93.

Charlotte amassed 180 points in defeating two-time defending champion Rhode Island, 180-146. La Salle finished third with 111 points, followed by SJU (87), Massachusetts (83), Fordham (64), Richmond (36), Temple (24) and Xavier (7).
