MARIETTA, GA -
Going 5-for-10 at the Buzz Classic, Saint Joseph's senior second baseman Jill Clementi earned All-Tournament honors as the Hawks opened up its season at the Georgia Tech tournament. Saint Joseph's dropped its first four games of the year, falling to Virginia, Evansville, Oklahoma State and South Dakota State.
Clementi collected a hit in each game at the Buzz Classic, scoring once and driving in one run. An Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection as a junior, Clementi also drew two walks on the weekend.
In the opener versus Virginia, the Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on the first career home run for senior catcher Lynn Ann Ravert. But the Hawks lead was short lived as the Cavaliers took a 2-1 edge in the bottom of the second and outscored Saint Joseph's 10-2 over the final three innings to pull out the 12-3 win.
Versus Evansville, the Hawks gave up three runs in the bottom of the first and their bats couldn't make up for the difference. Saint Joseph's got on the board in the top of the second on a solo-home run by freshman Sarah Falk, but wouldn't score again as Evansville tallied seven more runs to earn a 10-1 decision.
Saint Joseph's followed that game with a tightly fought contest versus Oklahoma State as the Hawks clung to a 1-0 edge heading into the fourth inning. Clementi put Saint Joseph's on the board in the second on an RBI single.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Cowboys broke open the game with four runs in the fourth and five runs in the sixth to earn a 9-1 victory.
In the final game versus South Dakota State, Saint Joseph's gave up three runs in the bottom of the third, but fought back to within two, 3-1, in the top of the sixth. A single by junior third baseman Rachel Pawlikowski cut the deficit, but the Hawks failed to score another run as South Dakota State held on for the 3-1 win.
With the losses, Saint Joseph's falls to 0-4 to start the season. The Hawks begin play at the Rebel games Monday, March 6.
