The Saint Joseph's Men's Track team notched six top-five finishes this weekend at the Lou Onesty/ Milton G. Abramson Invitational held at University of Virginia on Saturday April 15th.
Among the top finishers for the day were sophomores Richard Ryan and Bobby Staten, and seniors Mike DiDio, Matt Petrocci, and Andrew Thomas. Ryan finished 2nd in the 3,000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:19.01, just missing IC4A qualification. Staten took 3rd in the 100m Dash in 10.71making him an IC4A qualifier. Staten then went on to compete in the 200m Dash in which he finished with a time of 22.07.
The seniors continued to display strong running and leadership with their performances. DiDio earned his second win of the spring season placing 1st in the 1,500m out of 94 competitors. DiDio's time of 3:48.08 qualifies him for IC4As. Petrocci qualified for IC4As for the second time this season with his 4th place finish in the 800m on Saturday with a time of 1:52.05. Petrocci qualified in the 800m last weekend at the Duke invitational as well. Thomas continues his IC4A qualifying streak with his performance in the 400m. Thomas finished 3rd out of 70 competitors in a time of 48.04. He earned IC4A qualifying times in the 400m in all four events this season.
Adding to the Hawks' top finishes was the 4x400 relay team, finishing 2nd with a time of 3:15.02. Team `A's time qualifies SJU for IC4As for the second time this season.
The Hawks return to action at the Larry Ellis Invitational Friday April 21st and Saturday April 22nd.
