Sophomore Nicole McMullen and freshman Jared Sabre received weekly awards from the Atlantic 10 on Monday. McMullen earned the Performer of the Week for her three victories in the long jump, 440-yard dash, and anchored the 4x440-yard relay at Lafayette. Sabre won the open 500 meter run in his first collegiate race to take home the Rookie of the Week honor.
McMullen (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence HS), the 2006-07 SJU Women's Track Rookie of the Year, leapt 18 ft.-1 in. in the long jump, 60.15 in the 440-yd. dash and anchored the 4x440-yd. relay. She also placed fourth in the 60-yard dash, running 7.41. McMullen earned A-10 Rookie of the Week in last year's Lafayette meet. McMullen also became the first Hawk to claim Performer of the Week for the women's team since Andria Smyth won the top honor January 9, 2006.
Sabre (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts HS) won the 500m run in a time of 1:09.38. Competing in his first race, Sabre was one of just three Hawk athletes to secure a win at Lafayette on the men's side. In by doing so, Sabre earned the first A-10 Rookie of the Week since February 12, 2007 when sophomore Brian Doherty claimed the honor.
The SJU Track teams will be off for the rest of December from competition and return to action at the Penn State Relays on January 9, 2008.
