Hawk Men Snag Three Victories in Easton

Dec. 8, 2007

The Hawk men's track team turned in a solid performance at the Lafayette Invitational Friday evening. SJU had three winners that paced the way. Senior Bobby Staten, and newcomer, Jared Sabre both won sprinting events.

Staten bounced back after a disappointing outdoor 2007 season from which he was injured and didn't compete to win the 60-yard dash in 6.54. He won the preliminaries as well, running 6.47. Freshmen Paul Barolette and Chris Lau ran 6.80 and 7.00 respectively. Barolette scratched from the finals.

Sabre was impressive in his first collegiate race, running the 500 meter dash in a time of 1:0.38. Senior captain Mike Tatara (1:11.17) and junior Tom Gonzalez (1:15.87) finished third and sixth respectively.

Brendan Kearney took top honors in the mile with a 5:09.00 showing.

Other top performances included Lau's third place finish in the 300-yard dash in a time of 34.07 and SJU's 4x440-yard relay who finished 2nd in a time of 3:3.80.

The Hawks take a break for finals and the winter holidays before returning to the track on January 12 at the Penn State Relays in State College, PA.
