PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's and women's track teams finished their indoor seasons by running in the NYU Fastrack Invitational in New York on February 23 and the IC4A/ECAC Championships in Boston on March 3 and 4. The Hawk contingent acquitted itself well, turning in impressive times at both meets.

At NYU, freshman sensation Nicole McMullen led the Hawk women with her first-place finish in the long jump. In addition to leaping 5.68 meters, McMullen led off the 4x400 relay squad that finished second, turning in a time of 3:53.58, good enough to qualify for the ECAC meet. Also running well for SJU were seniors Valerie Ramirez, Rebecca Powell, and Erin Kelly. Ramirez ran a 9.13 in qualifying for the 60m hurdles, and her 9.21 in the finals garnered fourth-place honors. Powell took seventh in the 1,000m with a time of 2:59.78, while Kelly's 2:20.35 in the 800m took first in her heat and eighth overall.

On the men's side, SJU had two runners reach IC4A qualifying marks. In the 1,000m, sophomore Stephen Young turned in a 2:29.79 to place third in the race and qualify for the championships. In addition to Young, senior Teddy Meyers ran a 4:13.69 (seventh place) in the mile run to qualify as well.

At the IC4A/ECAC meet, McMullen placed 11th in the field in the long jump, leaping 18' 1-3/4". She also led the 4x400 squad to a second-place finish in its section. The group ran the race in 3:55.05. For the men, junior Bobby Staten ran the 55m in 6.42 seconds to qualify for the semifinals. In the semis, Staten ran a 6.40, good enough to qualify for the finals, but withdrew due to a hamstring injury. The Hawks managed to qualify two entries for the IC4A Outdoor Championships during the meet as well. The 4x400 relay squad qualified with a 3:17.41 in their heat, while Meyers qualified in the 5,000m with a time of 14:23.99 (10th place).

The Hawks will open the outdoor track and field season on March 24 at the Monmouth Open in Long Branch, NJ.
