NORRISTOWN, PA - Three fourth-inning runs put the Saint Joseph's baseball team into a hole it couldn't escape on Sunday afternoon as the Hawks suffered a 9-2 defeat at the hands of the Dayton Flyers. With the win, the Flyers took the weekend series two games to one.

Dayton (10-15, 2-4 Atlantic 10) got to freshman righthander Pat Monaghan early, scoring one in the second on a passed ball and three in the third on five consecutive hits to start the inning. Mark Dolaghan replaced Monaghan in the third and got out of a two-on, no-out jam to stop the bleeding.

Saint Joseph's (4-19, 2-4 Atlantic 10) got on the board in the bottom of the third when junior shortstop Chris Cashman lined a single to left, scoring senior Adriano Petrutz, who had singled and stolen second and third base.

The Flyers tacked on three more in the sixth after a fielding error on a two-out single by leftfielder Frank Tedesco allowed the inning to stay alive. The Hawks got one back in the seventh on a Mike Gentile sacrifice fly. Dayton then added two in the eighth to set the final margin.

Monaghan took the loss, falling to 0-3. Cale Ort recorded the win for Dayton, improving to 2-3 on the season. Ryan Hill pitched the final three innings for his first save.

The Hawks will face Villanova in a Liberty Bell Classic game on Tuesday, April 3rd at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth in Plymouth Township, PA. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
