PHILADELPHIA -
After leading the Saint Joseph's softball team to a 4-0 record last week, sophomore Dani Gonzales was recognized for her outstanding individual effort as she was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week.
In a doubleheader versus Drexel last Wednesday, Gonzales went 2-for-5, to go along with a home run, a RBI, two runs scored and three walks as the Hawks' swept the series 7-4 and 3-2. Versus Dayton on Friday, Gonzales went 1-for-2, with a RBI and a walk and followed that up with a 2-for-2 performance Saturday with the Flyers, adding three RBI, including her second home run of the week. The short stop finished with a .556 batting average for the week to go along with a 1.500 slugging percentage.
On the mound, Gonzales was just as stellar for the Hawks, factoring into all four contests. In game one versus the Dragons, Gonzales got a win in relief after throwing two scoreless innings, then earned the victory in the night cap, allowing only two runs, while striking out six in seven innings. Friday, Gonzales posted her first save of the season, allowing just one hit in the Hawks' 5-2 win over Dayton. Saturday, the sophomore allowed one run over 2.1 innings of relief to earn her fifth win of the season. She finished the week 3-0 as a pitcher, boasting a 1.06 ERA and a 12-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
This is the first conference award for Gonzales on the season as she shares the honor with Adrienne Repsher of Temple.
Gonzales and Saint Joseph's return to action Wednesday, April 18, as the Hawks travel to Temple for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
