Men's Track Competes at Larry Ellis Invitational

April 23, 2007

PRINCETON, NJ - The Saint Joseph's men's track squad participated in the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, NJ this weekend. Leading the pack for the Hawks were senior Teddy Meyers and graduate student Mike DiDio. Meyers qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the 5,000m, while DiDio missed his season-best in the 1,500m by two-tenths of a second.

Meyers ran a 14:10.73 in the 5,000m to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships. He finished first in the race, over three full seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Last year, Meyers set his personal best in the 5,000m on the same track, running the race in 14:06.23. DiDio finished ninth in the 1,500m elite race with a time of 3:45.83. It is the second time in three meets that DiDio ran a time faster than the NCAA-qualifying mark in the 1,500m.

Also performing well for the Hawks were senior Matthew McClure and junior Richard Ryan. McClure topped his personal best in the shot put with a throw of 43-2 ½. Ryan ran the 3000m Steeplechase in 9:16.00, which matches the IC4A qualifying barrier.

The Hawks return to the track this weekend at the Penn Relays, held at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field.
