PHILADELPHIA -
Saint Joseph's senior track and field team members Erin Kelly, Matthew McClure, and Teddy Meyers were named to the 2006-07 Atlantic 10 Track & Field Academic All-Conference Team on Tuesday afternoon. The honor is the first for Kelly and McClure, while Meyers was tabbed for the second time.
Kelly had a breakout senior season for the SJU women's cross country and track and field squads. She was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team after her second-place finish in the 800m at the A-10 Outdoor Championships. Her time of 2:14.05 was a personal best, and was the second-fastest time recorded in the conference this season. She was also part of the third-place 4x800 relay team at the A-10 Indoor Championships in March. Kelly, an education major, is a member of both the A-10 Commissioner's and SJU Athletic Director's Honor Rolls.
McClure continued to improve his personal-best marks in both the discus and the shot put all season long. He threw the discus a season- and personal-best 130-0 ¼ at the A-10 Outdoor Championships, and had a season-best throw of 43-2 ½ in the shot put at the Larry Ellis Invitational. McClure's shot put distance of 43-6 at the A-10 Indoor Championships earned him fifth place. A biology major, McClure is also a member of the A-10 Commissioner's and SJU's Athletic Director's Honor Rolls.
Meyers concluded his stellar career on Hawk Hill by qualifying for both the IC4A Championships and the NCAA Regionals in the 5,000m at the Duke Asics Invitational with a 14:05.71. He successfully defended his indoor 5,000m Atlantic 10 Championship with a time of 14:34.65. He also took first in the 1,500m at the Lafayette 6-Way Meet with a time of 3:58.98. Meyers, a mathematics major, was the recipient of the SJU Class of 1950 Award, given to the most outstanding male and female senior student-athletes. Like Kelly and McClure, Meyers was named to both the A-10 Commissioner's and SJU Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Charlotte's Jane Daniels and Sharonda Johnson were named the Atlantic 10 Student-Athletes of the Year on the women's side, while Ryan Moseley of La Salle received the honor for the men.
