UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.--The SJU Men's Track team kicked off the 2008 slate at the Penn State Relays on Saturday. The Sprint Medley Relay ran to a second place showing while the Four Mile Relay finished third. Kyle Murray, lead off leg of the Four Mile Relay added a third place finish in the 3,000m run with senior Will Rowland less than a second behind in fourth.
The SMR was led off by senior standout Bobby Staten with the 400m leg handing off to freshman Brian Smith and sophomore Drew Brandt for the two 200m legs. Freshman Jesse Brooks finished the successful relay with a strong 800m leg for a time of 3:36.97.
The Hawks also fared well in the Four Mile Relay finishing third wtih a time of 17:48.78. Murray led off handing the baton to freshman Ryan Fenimore, sophomore Jonathan Sclafani and sophomore George Wittmann.
Saint Joseph's distance crew backed the Four Mile Relay up with a solid effort in the 3,000m run as three Hawks finished in the top 10. SJU was led by Murray (8:36.06) in fourth, Rowland (8:36.66) in fifth, and Sclafani (8:48.11) in tenth.
SJU's Distance Medley Relay ran to a sixth place finish in a time of 10:12.62.
The Hawks are next in action at the Ursinus Invitational in Collegeville, Pa. on Friday before returning to Happy Valley for the Penn State National Meet the following week.
