UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Paced by junior Stephen Young's victory in the 1,000m run, the Hawk men's track team saw impressive performances all around the short track at Penn State's National Invitational.
Young, who was named Performer of the Meet at Penn State two weeks ago by head coach Mike Glavin for his performances in the 1,000m and 1,200m leg of the DMR, had another stellar meet this weekend. The meet, which had several NCAA provisional times met, saw Young post a time of 2:28.49 for the win.
He again led off the 1,200m leg of the DMR this week, leading the Hawks to a seventh place finish in a season-best time of 10:08.59. Other members on the successful DMR team was Drew Brandt in the 400m, Brendan Kearney in the 800m, and Brian Guterl running the anchoring 1,600m leg.
Another strong performance was put together by junior distanceman Kyle Murray who placed fifth in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:45.51. A very green crew of runners paced the Hawks in the 4x800m relay that saw three freshmen and a sophomore run to a eight place, 7:48.84 finish.
SJU split its squad this weekend between the elite PSU National Meet and the Princeton Invitational. The Hawks will hit the track again next week at the two-day Giegengack Invitational, hosted by Yale University in New Haven, Conn.
