EASTON, Pa.-- The Saint Joseph's men's track & field team captured six gold medals in its opening event of the year at Lafayette on Saturday. Bobby Staten, Tom DiNatale, Brendan Kearney, Jared Sabre, Nick DeFeo, and the 4x440 yard relay squad were victors at the four-team meet.
Staten qualified first in the 60 yard dash and blew away the field in the finals sprinting to an IC4A-qualifying time of 6.39 in the event. The 60 yard dash is equal to the 55m distance run at major competitions.
Kearney won the mile run in a time of 4:30.08 as the Hawks swept the top three spots in the events.
Sabre took the 500m run in 1:07.02 with Brian Smith finishing second in a time of 1:08.60.
Two freshmen won their first collegiate events in their debuts as DiNatale won the 300m dash in a time of 32.72 and Nick DeFeo was first in the 440 yard dash in 51.26.
Saint Joseph's ran three 4x440 yard relays finishing first, third and fourth. The winning squad completed the circuits in 3:28.85.
The Hawks will be away from competition until the New Year when they travel to State College for the Penn State Relays on January 10.
