Hawks Place Seventh in Men's A-10 Indoor Track & Field Championships

Feb. 16, 2008

The Saint Joseph's men's track team were paced by the performances of the 4x800m relay and Distance Medley Relay squads en route to a seventh place overall showing at the A-10 Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The relays both picked up silver medals. SJU scored 40 points and Charlotte won the overall competition with 181 points.

The 4x800m relay squad was three seconds behind Fordham (7:50.67) with a time of 7:53.55. On th erelay were juniors Brendan Kearney and Steve Young and freshmen Luke Fischer and George Arcarola.

The DMR had a more daunting task, trying to hold on to second rather than going for the win. La Salle clinched the title by nine seconds, but freshman Ryan Fenimore held off Richmond's Matthew Llano in the mile anchor leg to finish in a time of 10:21.03. Richmond finished less than a quarter second behind in 10:21.27. Brian Guterl ran the lead off 1,200m leg, Christopher Lau ran the 400m leg and Jesse Brooks ran the 800m leg before handing off to Fenimore.

Kyle Murray had the ineviable task of facing the A-10 long distance elite, including La Salle'sSean Quigley in the 5,000m run. Quigley ran an A-10 indoor record time of 13:52.66, which left second place spoils for the rest of the field. Murray was unable to keep up with Charlotte's Ryan Jank and finished third in a time of 14:39.89.

Another third place showing was turned in by Young in the 1,000m run with a time of 2:30.25m two second behind winner Joe Fedorowicz of La Salle. Fischer was fifth with a time of 2:31.38.
