LEWISBURG, Pa.--A pair of third place showing by freshmen Luke Fischer and Brian Guterl in the 1,000m and Mile runs respectively paced the Hawks at the Bucknell Winter Classic. The team ran a limited group of athletes in preparation for the Atlantic 10 Championships next week.
Fischer ran a time of 2:32.92 in the 1,000m trailed by fellow classmates Ryan Fenimore (2:33.45) and Jesse Brooks (2:34.64) fourth and fifth, respectively.
Guterl's time of 4:16.15 is the best this season by a Hawk in the Mile run.
Drew Brandt tallied a fourth place showing in the 200m dash with a time of 22.94. The men's 4x400m Relay (3:28.69) squad of Christopher Lau, Brian Doherty, Jared Sabre and George Arcarola finished fifth. Sabre matched that showing earlier in the day with a time of 51.71 in the 400m dash.
Brendan Kearney (1:57.60), Arcarola (1:58.43) and Doherty (1:58.54) all broke two minutes in the 800m en route to fourth, sixth and eighth place finishes.
SJU will be in action next week to compete for the 2008 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships at Rhode Island.
