WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Saint Joseph's men's track team opened its outdoor season at the Monmouth Season Opener on Saturday with two wins highlighting the first meet of the spring. Freshmen Jimmy McCue and Ryan Fenimore secured wins in the middle distances capturing the 800-meter and 1,500-meter runs, respectively.
McCue led all harriers in the 800m, completing the two-lap race in 1:59.29. Fellow classmates Brian Guterl (ninth) and George Arcarola (12th) followed close behind in 2:01.77 and 2:02.26.
Fenimore led an even more impressive race, winning the 1,500m in a time of 4:06.00. Following Fenimore was freshman Luke Fischer (4:09.88) in fourth place, while junior Justin Heinze (4:10.41) was a place behind in fifth.
Other top finishes were put together by senior Bobby Staten (sixth/22.45) in the 200m dash, and the Sprint Medley Relay (second/3:36.53). Monmouth was the first meet Staten competed in since December due to injury. The standout qualified for the IC4A 55m dash in the lone race in which he competed.
Saint Joseph's will hit the track again next week when the Hawks will travel to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary on Friday and Saturday.
