CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Saint Joseph's men's track team turned in two medaling positions on Saturday at the Lou Onesty Invitational. The long distance events shined for SJU as Kyle Murray won the 5,000-meter run while Will Rowland placed second in the 1,500-meter run to pace the Hawks in the non-scoring meet.

Murray, who also competed in the 1,500m (22nd/4:07.02), garnered a gold for his performance in the 5,000m. He completed the 12-and-a-half lap event in 15:00.98.

Further bolstering the long distance crew was Will Rowland whose second place finish was completed in a time of 3:59.27. The senior was just 1.37 seconds from first place.

In addition to Murray and Rowland, sophomore Jimmy Jennings saw his way to fourth position in the 3,000m Steeplechase in a time of 9:54.15.

Two ninth-place showings were put together by Steve Philbrook, in the 400m Intermediate Hurdles, and Stephen Young in the 800m. Philbrook completed the 400m IH in 56.32 and Young ran the two-circuit event to a time of 1:55.39. Backing up Philbrook in the 400m IH was freshman Brian Smith just a half-second behind in 14th place in a time of 56.82

The track & field squad will travel north to Princeton, N.J. to compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational next weekend in a final tune up to Penn Relays the following week.
