Teuber and McMullen Take Three Wins; Young Qualifies for IC4As at Swarthmore

May 13, 2008

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's men's and women's track and field squads took home three wins and two bronze place finishes on Tuesday evening at the Swarthmore College Last Chance meet. Senior Jordan Teuber won the 100m and 200m dashes, Nicole McMullen won the long jump, while Nohjay Nimpson (women's triple jump) and Stephen Young (men's 1,500m) both earned third-place finishes in their respective events, Young earning a spot in this weekend's IC4A Championship.

Young's time of 3:49.90 saw him qualify for the IC4A Championships by over two seconds. Of all the athletes that competed Tuesday, he was the lone Hawk to earn a berth in the IC4As or ECACs that was not already qualified.

Teuber who already qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 200m dash, was attempting to meet the standard in the 100m. She fell just short of the prescribed 12.12 standard with her winning time of 12.54. Her best effort came at the Atlantic 10 Championships two weekends ago (12.22). Teuber ran 24.73 to take the 200m race.

McMullen, who needed to jump approximately 19' ¼" to reach the ECAC standard, was short in her attempt, despite the win. Her leap of 18' 1½" won the event but ended her hopes of jumping at ECACs this weekend. Her previous best was 18' 8½" at Larry Ellis in April.

Nimpson saw her way to a third-place showing in the triple jump thanks to a leap of 36' 11", her best of the season. In the 100m Hurdles, Jessica Chen ran a personal best 15.84 to place fifth in the event.

Rounding out the top action on the men's side was Drew Brandt in the 400m dash, who ran a time of 49.69, good enough to earn eighth place.

Saint Joseph's will travel to Princeton for the three-day combined event for the ECAC Championships and the IC4A Championships starting Friday.
