Box Score

SPOKANE, WASH. - Despite getting a career-high 19 points from sophomore forward Dominique Bryant and having two other Hawks score in double figures, the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team couldn't slow down hot-shooting Gonzaga as the Hawks fell to the Bulldogs, 93-70, Friday evening at the McCarthy Center Arena.

Saint Joseph's offense shot a solid 42.9 percent from the field (27-of-63), but Gonzaga's offense clicked early and finished 38-of-69 from the field (55.1 percent).

Up 11-6, Gonzaga began to pull away from the Hawks. Behind a 14-5 run that spanned nearly seven minutes, the Bulldogs opened up a 25-11 edge as Heather Bowman capped the run with a jumpshot at 8:32.

Saint Joseph's (7-7) continued to fight though, and cut the deficit to 10, 33-23, on a jumper by junior guard Mariame Djouara with 6:13 left in the first stanza.

The Zags (12-4) responded again, scoring seven straight points to open up a 40-23 lead and would take a 44-25 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, Gonzaga opened up a 23-point lead, but the Hawks kept chipping away, making it a 67-56 game on a layup by junior forward Brittany Ford at 10:45.

Unfortunately for the Saint Joseph's, that was as close as they would get as Gonzaga opened its lead to 20-plus points over the remaining time.

For the game, the Hawks shot 41.7 percent from three-point range (7-of-17), but went just 9-of-15 from the foul line (60.0 percent). At the other end, the Zags went 8-of-17 from behind the arc (47.1 percent), 9-of-11 from the foul line (81.8 percent) and out rebounded the Hawks 45-29.

Individually, Bryant was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field, including 4-of-4 from three-point range and added a free throw to lead SJU's offense with 19 points. Ford and Djouara were the only other Hawks in double figures, scoring 14 points and 13 points, respectively.

For Gonzaga, Bowman led the way with 33 points as the Bulldogs placed five players in double figures.

Saint Joseph's returns to action Tuesday, January 6 at George Mason. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
