KINGSTON, R.I. - The Saint Joseph's men's and women's indoor track & field squads travel to the University Rhode Island for the 2009 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend. The two-day event, starting Friday morning, will be hosted at URI's Mackal Fieldhouse.
The men's team, which owns four the Conference's best times in X events, looks to better its 2008 showing of seventh. Bobby Staten (60m), Brian Guterl (Mile), Kyle Murray (3K), and the DMR squad are SJU's representatives in events that the Hawks will rely on for a high team finish.
On the women's side, the women are trying to eclipse their eight place 2008 finish this weekend. Paced by Nicole McMullen in the 200m (third going into A-10s) and Long Jump (second), Saint Joseph's will be searching for strong performances from a pair of Caseys. Kathleen Casey (1,000m) and Anna Casey (800m) are third and fourth in their respective events.
For the first time in Conference history, the Championship meet is a two-day competition, beginning Friday morning and concluding Saturday night. Check in with www.sjuhawks.com for updated standings and results tomorrow for all Hawk athletes and continued coverage of the SJU Track squads in 2009.
