Feb. 9, 2009

PHILADELPHIA—Sophomore Brian Guterl (Rahway, N.J./Union Catholic Regional) garnered A-10 Co-Performer of the Week accolades for the week ending February 9.  Guterl won the 1,000m race in an IC4A-qualifying time of 2:25.84, best in the A-10 this season, at the Giegengack Invitational.

Guterl, who is tops in the A-10 in the 1,000m, ran away from the field winning the race by over two seconds.  The previous day, he helped the DMR squad complete its best race of the season in a winning 9:57.40.

Staten shared the award with Charlotte's Corel Mack ran 8.02 in the 60m dash.

This is the first award of the year for Guterl as well as the second conference recognition for any SJU athlete in the 2009 track season.

The Hawks will travel to the Lafayette-Rider Invitational on Friday at New York's Armory Track & Field Complex.  The first event is set to kick off at 2:00 p.m.
