PHILADELPHIA--The Atlantic 10 Conference honored graduate student Will Rowland on Wednesday as a member of the 2009 Academic-All Conference. In voting conducted by the league's sports information directors, Rowland was placed on the squad with nine others and was the only graduate school member selected.
Rowland is currently the team's leader in the 5K and the 10K this season, setting career bests in both events this season. The graduate finance major was crowned the 2009 A-10 10K Champion on May 2 when he won the race in a meet-record time of 29:46.66.
Earlier this season, Rowland won the 10K at the Colonial Relays in a time of 30:32.14. That was his second win of the season after he won the 3K at Lafayette to kick off the 2009 Outdoor campaign.
In the 5K, Rowland has also had success as he ran a time of 14:18.20 at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Both his 5K and 10K times have him in the IC4A Championships to be contested this weekend at Princeton.
Rowland is the first men's honoree on the Academic All-Conference team since 2007 when Matt McClure and Teddy Meyers were members of the squad.
