PRINCETON, N.J. – The Saint Joseph's men's track team had Hawks compete and score in three finals over the course of the final two days at the ICAAAA Championships at Princeton University. Highlighting the performances was Brian Guterl who not only qualified for NCAA Regionals in the 800m he finished fourth in the event.
Guterl's showing in the preliminaries of the 800m barely earned him a spot in the finals, but he ran a time of 1:50.15, good enough for a spot in the NCAA Regional Meet in two weeks. The sophomore mid-distanceman, who has already earned a place in the 1,500m NCAA Regionals, finished fourth in the finals with a 1:52.19.
Guterl then teamed up with Luke Fischer, Steve Young, and Jesse Brooks in the 4x800m Relay that ran a time of 7:32.90 in the prelims, good enough for the 10th and final qualifying position in the finals. In the finals, the Hawks ran to eighth place with a time of 7:39.03.
SJU's other high-quality individual performance came from Bobby Staten in the 100m Dash. The redshirt senior won his heat and qualified with the second-fastest time of 10.56. In the finals, Staten finished sixth with a time of 10.62. Staten, like Guterl, has qualified for NCAA Regionals in the 100m and 200m Dashes.
The Hawks fielded 4x100m Relay and 4x400m Relay squads this weekend as well. The 4x400m team was 23rd, while the 4x100m team was disqualified for passing outside of its zone.
Joining Guterl and Staten at the NCAA East Regional will be Will Rowland (5,000m) and Kyle Murray (3,000m Steeplechase). The meet will take place May 29-30 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
