PHILADELPHIA - Temple held on to beat Saint Joseph's, 58-55, in overtime in Atlantic 10 and Big 5 women's basketball action at the Liacouras Center. Saint Joseph's falls to 8-9 (1-1 A-10; ) while Temple improves to 12-5 (2-1 A-10; 1-2 Big 5). Mariame Djouara and Ashley Prim each had 13 points for the Hawks while Ashley Logue scored 10 points. Temple's Kristen McCarthy scored the points that the Owls needed in the extra period, hitting two go-ahead free throws, and then a 3-pointer at 2:59 to give Temple the 57-52 lead. Leading 58-55, Temple committed a shot-clock violation and gave the Hawks the ball with 5.0 to go, but Saint Joseph's couldn't get off a final shot. Ashley Logue hit a 3-pointer at 1:43 in regulation to give the Hawks a 52-50 lead. With the score tied, 52-52, and Temple in possession with 34.1 seconds left, Michelle Baker intercepted an Owls' pass with 4.6 seconds remaining. After a timeout, the Hawks' Djoura drove the ball down the court but her jumper was off the mark and the game went into overtime tied at 52-52. In the second half, Temple took its biggest lead of the half, 43-37, on a hook by Jasmine Stone. Logue hit a 3-pointer at 4:03 to tie the game, 46-46. After Temple went back up 48-46, Michelle Baker hit two free throws at 3:20. Ashley Prim gave the Hawks their first lead of the half, 49-48, with one free throw at 2:32. The first half was tight and saw Temple lead by as many as seven, but Dominque Bryant hit a 3-pointer to cut t 21-8, and then a layup to pull the Hawks within 21-18. Temple led 26-20 with 1:20 to play but two free throws by Amy Gillespie and a layup by Bryant at :10 cut the Owls' lead to 26-24 at the break. Neither team shot well in the game, with the Hawks hitting just 31.6 percent and Temple converting only 29.4 percent, while both squads totaled 21 turnovers in the contest. Temple was led by 17 points from LaKeisha Eaddy, with Stone grabbing 11 rebounds as the Owls held a decisive 51-39 edge on the boards. The Hawks return to action on Wednesday hosting Dayton at Hagan Arena.
