GAME STORIES . . .
The Hawks hold a 6-3 series lead, but have dropped two straight and three of the last four to the Dragons. Drexel has also won the last two meeting against SJU at the Daskalakis Center.
The Hawks have opened the season with a 3-0 record for the 10th time in team history. Eight of the nine previous SJU teams earned a postseason berth, with the 1984-85 squad opening the year with a record 10-straight wins and earning the program's first NCAA bid.
Saint Joseph's improved to 2-0 on the road with its win Saturday at UMBC. The two victories are one more than the Hawks won on the road last year during the non-conference slate as they posted a 1-4 mark and finished the year with a 4-8 road record.
On defense, Saint Joseph's is holding opponents to just 30.9 percent from the field (55-of-78). The Hawks held UMBC to a season-low 25.8 percent from the floor (16-of-62) on Saturday, including a 5-of-29 effort in the first half (17.2 percent).
Junior guard Michelle Baker earned both Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Big 5 Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll accolades after averaging 16 points per game in SJU's two wins.
The 2010-11 season marks the 38th year of Division I women's basketball at Saint Joseph's. The Hawks are seven wins shy of 700, having posted a 693-360 all-time record.
Saint Joseph's is one of only two Atlantic 10 teams that remains unbeaten. The Hawks and fifth-ranked Xavier Musketeers (2-0) are the only two A-10 squads still perfect this season.
