Easton, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's men's track team finished fourth in its outdoor track season opener at Lafayette 8 Way meet on Saturday. Three Hawks won events with Kyle Murray leading the way winning the 3,000 meter run and taking second in the 1,500 meter, while Jared Sabre and Luke Fischer won the 400 meter dash and 1,500 meter, respectively.

Along with Murray, who finished the 3,000 meter in 8:37.40, four other Hawks stole the top five spots in the event including Jonathan Sclafani in second (8:38.70) and Jimmy Jennings (third/8:44.04), Vince Collins (8:44.59), and Kyle Gorczynski (8:45.15).

In the 1,500 meter Fischer finished in 3:58.77 while Kyle Murray clocked in at 4:01.12 while Sclafani crossed the line less than a second later in 4:01.52.

Sabre ran the 400 meter dash in 49.73 seconds while David Smith also scored in the event with a fifth-place finish in 51.77 seconds.

Rounding out scoring for the Hawks in individual events were Steven Philbrook, Dylan Wenik, Murphy O'Donnell, and Jon Mazzio. Philbrook took fifth (56.79) in the 400 meter hurdles, Wenik had a sixth-place finish (1:57.07) in the 800 meter, and in the 3,000 meter steeplechase O'Donnell and Mazzio took fourth (9:52.16) and fifth (9:56.60), respectively.

In relays the Hawks placed third in both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays, finishing the 4x100 in 43.15 seconds and the 4x400 in 3:25.11.

Senior Drew Brandt was the team's top finisher in both the 100 and 200 meter dash, placing seventh (11.62) and ninth (23.00), respectively.

Saint Joseph's competes next on Friday and Saturday at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Pa.
