Box Score
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -
Senior Hannah Rogers scored twice and senior Nicole McCreight added a goal and two assists as the Saint Joseph's field hockey team took down Lehigh, 6-4, on Wednesday night. The Hawks outshot the Mountain Hawks 32-12, getting 27 of those shots on the cage.
Saint Joseph's (2-4) came out of the gate on fire, scoring four times in a 20-minute span. Rogers got things started 7:47 into the contest, redirecting a cross from junior Theresa Testa into the cage for a 1-0 lead.
McCreight doubled the lead four and a half minutes later, beating LU goalkeeper Lilia Stefaniwsky low for her fifth goal of the season.
Six minutes later, junior Ellen Rowe scored her first goal of the year on a pass from senior Casey Fry. Junior Therese Doyle joined the party with 7:55 to go in the first half, scoring an unassisted goal to give SJU a commanding lead.
Lehigh (1-6) would not go quietly, however. Caitlin Donnelly tallied her first of three on the night with 3:22 remaining in the half to cut the lead to three. The margin dropped to two with 53 seconds left in the frame as Madison Ingal pushed a shot past SJU senior goalkeeper Kelly Swanick into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Fry got the second half started for the Crimson and Gray by tipping in a McCreight shot four minutes in to push the lead back to three.
The advantage dwindled to one, however, as Donnelly scored twice in the span of 10 minutes to make it a 5-4 game with 12:47 to go in the game, but Rogers bookended the contest with her second goal of the night with just under two minutes to go, deflecting in McCreight's penalty corner shot to seal the victory.
Stefaniwsky tallied 20 saves on the night, including 14 in the second half, to keep LU in the contest until the very end. Swanick made one save in 35 minutes of duty while junior Liz Messaros also saw time in the cage for SJU, making four saves in the second half.
Saint Joseph's will return to Buckley Field on Friday for a 3:00 p.m. game against Rider before heading to Delaware on Sunday.
