Women's Basketball Looks to Get Back to Winning Ways Saturday Against Massachusetts

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's women's basketball team will try to snap a three-game skid as the Hawks welcome Massachusetts to Hagan Arena on Saturday. Game time is set for 2 p.m. with the game being streamed live on the Saint Joseph's Sports Network.

GAME STORIES . . .
• After opening Atlantic 10 play with a win at Saint Louis, Saint Joseph's has dropped three straight games (Xavier, Charlotte and Temple) to fall to 1-3 and 11th place in the conference.
• This year marks just the sixth time the Hawks have opened conference play with a 1-3 mark, with the team opening losing four of its first five games only twice (1983-84 and 2008-09).
• Saturday's contest is the 52nd meeting between the Hawks and Massachusetts. Saint Joseph's holds a 42-9 edge, and won three of the last four contests. The Minutewomen won last year's meeting, 75-62, at the Mullins Center.
• The Hawks have struggled from the field in the past three games (against Xavier, Charlotte and Temple). Saint Joseph's has converted just 32.6 percent of its shots (57-of-175) during its losing streak.
• Junior forward/center Samira Van Grinsven is averaging 13.5 points per game over the last two contests. She scored a season-best 17 points against Charlotte last Saturday and followed with 10 points and eight rebounds at Temple on Wednesday.
• Juniors Michelle Baker and Katie Kuester have been held in check on the offensive side of the ball the past three games. The duo, who combined for 25.4 points per game in the non-conference, have averaged just 13.0 points a contest over the current stretch.
