Jared Sabre Paces Men's Track at Atlantic 10 Championships

Kingston, R.I. - Saint Joseph's senior Jared Sabre earned Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference honors for his second-place finish in the 500 meter to pace the men's track team at the Atlantic 10 Championships. The Hawks placed eighth of 10 teams competing in the championships at URI's Mackal Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday.

Sabre placed second (1:04.52) in the 500 meter preliminary round and improved his time to a season-best 1:03.92 to take second in the finals.

David Smith had a third-place finish (50.06) to qualify for finals in the 400 meter and improved his time to a season-best 49.55 seconds for a fourth-place finish overall.

In the mile, Luke Fischer also had a fourth-place showing, with a time of 4:16.80, while Murphy O'Donnell had a season-best finish (4:29.02) to place 15th.

In the 1,000 meter sophomore David Manion placed ninth in preliminaries with a time of 2:34.68 and improved to a time of 2:33.84 for a seventh-place finish overall.

Jon Mazzio took fifth in the 3,000 meter run with a personal-best and IC4A qualifying time of 8:25.71, while Dan Roark had a season-best time of 8:41.73 to place 12th.

In the 5,000 meter senior Vince Collins took sixth with a time of 15:04.35, while freshman Mike Rankin placed 10th in 15:11.38 and Kevin Donnelly finished 13th (15:33.68.

Andrew Townsend had a season-best time of 2:00.19 to place 16th in the 800 meter run, while freshmen Tyler Dougherty had season bests in the 55 meter (6.83) and 200 meter (23.01) and Michael Yap put in a season-best 6.89 in the 55 meter.

In the triple jump John DiPersio had a season-best mark of 41'2 1/2" (12th) while Vinh Nghi To also had a season best with a mark of 39'8 1/2".

The Hawks compete in their last meet before IC4A's in the Armory Collegiate Challenge on Friday in New York. The IC4A Championships will be held at the Boston University Track and Field Pavilion in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6..
