Saint Joseph's women's basketball team capped the regular season with a 64-49 win George Washington Sunday at the Smith Center. With the win, the Hawks finishes 8-6 in the Atlantic 10 and 18-10 overall, and claims the eighth seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Saint Joseph's fill face ninth-seeded La Salle at noon Friday at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Following a back-and-forth start to the first half, Saint Joseph's pulled away from the Colonials. With the game tied at 16-16, the Hawks used a 9-0 run over a four-minute span to take a 25-16 edge on a three pointer by freshman guard Erin Shields with 2:14 to go. Saint Joseph's would open the lead t 28-18, but George Washington fought back to make it a 29-22 game at intermission.
In the second half, the Hawks shot 44.8 percent from the floor (13-of-29) and 7-of-9 from the foul line. Up 36-34, Saint Joseph's used an 11-1 run to open a 47-35 lead and never look back.
Individually, junior Katie Kuester was one of three Hawks in double figures, scoring a team-best 14 points.
George Washington (8-20, 3-11 A-10) was led by Sara Mostafa's 16 points.
