CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Saint Joseph's softball team splits its pair of games Saturday afternoon at the USF UnderArmour Showcase. The Hawks topped Quinnipiac, 8-5, in the opener, but fell to Maryland, 4-1, in eight innings in the second contest.

The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Quinnipiac in the top of the first on a RBI single by Monica Aguilar. She'd later come around to score on a past ball to put the Hawks up two runs.

The Bobcats answered with four runs in the second, but SJU responded with five runs in the top of the third to take a 7-4 edge. Sophomore Shannon Kramer tied the game with a two-run triple, and came around to score the eventual winning run on an illegal pitch.

Sophomores Rochelle Christman and Deanna Stinner would tally the additional runs in the third, while Stinner scored the final run in the top of the fifth on a RBI single by Dana Parks.

Junior Erin Galalgher picked up the win after allowing just two earned runs, while striking out four. Sophomore Taryn Ashway picked up the save working two scoreless innings in relief.

Against the Terps, Gallagher held the opposing batters off balance through the first seven innings, but neither team could score a run, forcing extra innings tied at 0-0.

Maryland took advantage in the eighth, scoring three runs in the top of the inning.

The Hawks rallied as junior Bernadette Moran scored Laura Cardone to open the bottom half of the inning. However, Saint Joseph's couldn't add any more runs, as they left two runners on base to end the game.

Saint Joseph's caps play Sunday against Ball State.
