Newport News, Va. -
Saint Joseph's Jared Sabre was named to the 2011 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team on Friday. In voting conducted by the conference's sports information directors, Sabre was placed on the team with nine others.
Sabre is currently the team's leader in the 400m, 500m, and 800m this season, setting career bests in all three events. The Spring City, Pennsylvania native earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team after finishing second in the 500m at the A-10 Championships on February 29 with a time of 1:03.68.
Sabre improved his IC4A-qualifying time in the 500m to the conferences second best (1:03.00) a week later at the Armory Challenge in New York. He will compete in the 500m at the IC4A Championships on Sunday, March 6.
The actuarial sciences major was also part of the 4x400m and distance medley relay squads that earned IC4A-qualifying times this season.
Sabre is the first men's honoree on the Academic All-Conference team since 2009 when Will Rowland was a member of the squad.
