CLEARWATER, Fla. -
Junior pitcher Erin Gallagher struck out 11 and classmate Monica Aguilar drilled a solo homer in the third innings as Saint Joseph's softball topped Central Michigan, 2-0, Tuesday afternoon in a neutral-site game in Clearwater, Florida.
In the circle, Gallagher was dominant, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning. After allowing a bloop single to left field to start the inning, Gallagher worked out of a bases-loaded jam to preserve the win and improve to 6-3 on the year. She allowed just two hits on the day in the shutout.
At the plate. Aguilar got the Hawks on the board in the third on a solo homer.
Saint Joseph's extended the lead to 2-0 in the fifth as the Hawks used their speed. With the bases loaded, junior Bernadette Moran scored the second run on a fielder's choice off the bat of senior Dana Bieniek. Standing at third, Moran charged home on a ball hit to Central Michigan's shortstop and beat the relay throw, adding the insurance run.
