Philadelphia, Pa. - After a few weeks off, the Saint Joseph's men's track team performed well at the Delaware Thompson Invitational. Led by a first place finish in the 400m by Tyler Dougherty, the Hawks came out strong.
Dougherty's 50.70 finish was good enough to capture first place with Nicholas Beninato finishing fifth at 53.70. Dougherty followed up with a second place mark of 23.18 in the 200m while Tom DiNatale crossed the finish line in third at 23.62.
Saint Joseph's cleaned up in the 500m taking the top three spots as Giff Roberts took first with a time of 1:07.97. Adam Drastura and Jorry Senestant finished 1:08.64 and 1:09.17 respectively to help out the Hawks.
SJU continued their dominance in the middle distance with second place finishes in the 800m, 1000m and the mile. James Gentile took second place in the 800m as he crossed the line at 1:59.38 as Patrick Donnelly grabbed second place in the mile at 4:28.16. Tommy O'Kane and Lester Taylor took second and third respectively as they finished 2:38.39 and 2:38.47.
The 4x400m relay team of Roberts, Senestant, Drastura and Kyle Lampart captured first overall as the combined to turn in a time of 3:25.66.
The men will return to action this weekend when they compete at Giegengack Invitational in New Haven, Conn. on Friday.
