Women's Basketball Keeps Busy During Offseason

May 1, 2012

PHILADELPHIA - Despite it being the offseason, the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team has been busy the past couple of weeks. In between studying for finals and conditioning, the Hawks have helped share their training secrets with PHL 17's Ashley Johnson, while head coach Cindy Griffin has taken part in the "Real Women of Coaching" project at Drexel University.

Taking part in PHL 17's "Get It Right, Get It Tight" segment, Saint Joseph's Shelby Smith, Kelsey Berger, Natasha Cloud, Ashley Prim and Mireia Vila - with the help from assistant coach Chris Day - show off some of the conditioning drills the team does during the offseason. Along with talking to Griffin about their workout schedule and nutritionists, Johnson and former Penn standout Mikaelyn Austin try their luck in a game of two-on-two against Smith and Berger.

Additionally, Griffin will be featured in three installments of the "Real Women of Coaching" feature, sponsored by the Sports Management Program at Drexel University. Leading the Hawks to eight postseason appearances in her 11 years, Griffin is slated to appear in episodes featuring aspects of balancing work and family life, mentoring and a glance at her experience in the coaching profession.

Created by Dr. Amy Giddings, "Real Women of Coaching" gives the audience a chance to not only listen to collegiate coaches such as Griffin, but also see female coaches in their element and hear from them about their experiences.
