Mendez Throws Two-Hitter to Lead Softball to 6-0 Win over Delaware State

MERION STATION, PA. - Freshman Liz Mendez struck out 11 batters and allowed just two hits as the Saint Joseph's softball team shut out Delaware State, 6-0, at the SJU Softball Field. The Hawks improve to 26-4-1 on the year.

Mendez upped her record to 5-3 on the season while walking only one batter.

Melissa Ruf went 2-for-3 for the Hawks while Brandi Harkness was 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Harkness keyed a four-run first inning for SJU, when she hit a two-run double that scored Sarah Yoos and Monica Aguilar.

The Hawks added one more in the fourth inning when Maria Ficca scored and tallied another in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Juliette D'Ambrosio.

Jennifer Fischback was the losing pitcher for Delaware State (15-24) while Ashley Bennett had both of the visitors' two hits.

The Hawks will travel to Butler this weekend for an A-10 series.
