MEET 1: PRINCETON INVITATIONAL
PRINCETON, N.J. - Freshman Dannah Hayward took third place in the 400H as the women's track and field team competed at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational this past Friday and Saturday at Weaver Stadium. In a meet that featured 70 track and field programs, the Hawks recorded four impressive top-ten performances.
Hayward quickly adjusted to the collegiate 400H outdoor scene after breaking the school record in the event two weekends ago. This weekend, Hayward posted a time of 1:01.46 to take third out of 26 runners, missing a new school record by just .05 seconds. Although an ECAC-qualifying time, Hayward's school-record 1:01.41 from the Colonial Relays stands as her seed time for the upcoming Outdoor Championships.
The 4x400m relay of Hayward and juniors Jaclyn Kogut, Mercedes Yanora, and Kathryn Pratt took fourth of 15 teams in 3:53.13. The time stands as the fastest 4x400m outdoor time at this point in the season.
Pratt also placed in the 400m, running a season-best 57.62 en route to a 10th-place finish.
Sophomore Brianna Hunt represented the Hawks in the jump events with a high-jump mark of 1.60m (5' 3") to tie for ninth place.
MEET TWO: WIDENER INVITATIONAL
CHESTER, Pa. - Kayla Charles won the 100H and the 4x100m relay also took home the gold to lead the women's track and field team at the Widener Invitational this past Friday and Saturday. The Hawks posted 14 top-ten performances on the weekend.
Charles picked up a win in the 100H with a personal-record and season-leading time of 14.60. Charles was just .11 seconds shy of a new SJU record in the event. Senior Francesca D'Angelo followed suite, finishing just behind Charles for a second-place finish in the 100H (15:13).
The 4x100m relay of seniors Genevieve Ruppel and D'Angelo, freshman Carly McGowan, and sophomore Kathryn Polaski won the event in 49.53.
Three Hawks posted top-five performances in the jumps. Ruppel registered a mark of 5.16m in the long jump and sophomore Gabriella Becattini hit 11.12m in the triple jump en route to a pair of third-place finishes. Polaski rounded out the jumps with a fifth-place finish (5.04m) in the long jump.
Junior Darcy O'Connor represented SJU in the long-distance events with a fourth-place finish in the 10,000m (season-best 43:12.01).
The sprint and hurdle events saw the remainder of the top-ten performances. Ruppel (13.03), McGowan (13.08), and freshman Jazmin Dunlap (13.17) came in fifth, sixth, and 10th in the 100m while Dunlap took ninth (26.53, PR) in the 200m.
In her third event of the meet, Charles took eighth in the 400H (1:07.62) while junior Mia Greer came in 10th (season-best 1:09.46). In the 400m, senior Shannon Geddes clocked in with a season-best time of 1:00.54, good for an eighth-place finish.
Saint Joseph's will return to action next Thursday-Saturday, April 25-27, at the Penn Relays. The Hawks are scheduled to kick-off the prestigious meet with participation in the 400H at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.
