INDIANAPOLIS - The Saint Joseph's softball team split its doubleheader at Butler on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks took the opener, 5-4, but fell in game two, 5-2. The split moves Saint Joseph's record to 27-5-1 overall and 10-2 in the Atlantic 10.

In game one, the Hawks (27-5-1, 10-2 Atlantic 10) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning as freshman Sarah Yoos scored on a RBI single by Rochelle Christman.

The Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the fifth on a solo home run off the bat of Monica Aguilar.

Pinch runner Traneya White scored the first of three runs for the Hawks in the sixth, scoring on a fielding error by Butler off a hit by Melissa Ruf. Nicole Palase followed with a two-run double that scored Maria Ficca and Kerrie Kortmann to make it a 5-0 game.

Butler would score once in the sixth and three times in the seventh, but SJU ace Taryn Ashway worked out of trouble in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win for the Hawks and improve to 22-1 on the season as she allowed three earned runs, while striking out six in the complete game victory.

In the second game, the Bulldogs (18-20, 7-5 A-10) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but SJU rallied to score two in the third inning to make it a 2-1 game. Palase again drew a big hit, singling to right field to score Ficca and Christman.

Unfortunately for SJU, Butler scored twice in the fourth to make it 3-2 and added two insurance runs in the sixth to make it 5-2.

The Hawks cap their road stretch Sunday at Saint Louis.
