Collin Forgey was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs batted in, and three runs scored as the Saint Joseph's baseball team clinched its weekend series against St. Bonaventure with a 7-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Smithson Field.
Chris Hueth and Brian O'Keefe also had two hits on the day while Stefan Kancylarz added a solo home run for his third longball of the season. O'Keefe extended his hitting streak to eight games.
Forgey led off the game for Saint Joseph's (15-16) with a single to center and came in to score two batters later on a double by O'Keefe.
The Hawks tripled the lead in the second as Kevin Kratochwill singled and scored on Forgey's first home run in a Saint Joseph's uniform to make it a 3-0 game.
St. Bonaventure (8-14) got on the board in the fourth on an RBI single by Billy Urban, but the Hawks answered in the bottom half when Quinn Renner drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on a wild pitch. Hueth then reached on a one-out single in the fifth and came around to score on a fielder's choice grounder by Anthony Cirillo to make it 5-1.
Joel Rosencrance led off the sixth for the Bonnies with a home run before Jason Radwan and Austin Ingraham singled to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Steven Schuler came in from the bullpen and struck out Urban before inducing a double play ball out of Mark Hutmacher to end the threat.
Kancylarz's home run in the bottom of the sixth restored the four-run lead at 6-2. In the eighth, Forgey and Kancylarz drew consecutive one-out walks before Mike Muha singled to right to plate Forgey and extend the lead to five.
With two outs in the ninth, pinch hitter Eric Jutca doubled home Josh Martin, but Jimmy Yacabonis got Rosencrance to fly out to end the ballgame.
Daniel Thorpe earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out two in five-plus innings, to improve to 3-4. Steven Klimek fell to 1-3 on the season after he was tagged for four runs, three earned, on five hits and four walks in three and a third.
The Hawks head to Delaware State on Tuesday. First pitch against the Hornets is set for 3:00 p.m.
