Softball Competes at Pignoli Memorial Tournament

EWING, N.J. - The Saint Joseph's softball team posted a pair of wins this past Saturday at the Rocci Pignoli Memorial Tournament. The Hawks topped Princeton 4-0 in the opener, and followed with an 8-1 victory over Rider before falling to Lafayette, 3-2, Sunday.

Against Princeton, sophomore pitcher Liz Mendez was dominant, striking out 11 batters over seven innings, while holding the Tigers off the scorebaord.

At the plate, sophomore Sarah Yoos drilled a solo home run, while seniors Maria Ficca and Morgan Earling accounted for three RBIs.

In game two against Rider, Anna Lauterbach, Emily Rogers and Niki Carillo combined for seven strong innings, with Lauterbach getting the decision.

On the offensive side, Jackie Gheraldi went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Nicole Palase delivered a two-run home run, while Traneya White, Alexis Bush and Maddie Brunck each added an RBI.

Versus Lafayette, sophomore Kerrie Kortmann collected a double and scored a run, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks fell to the Leopards.

Saint Joseph's caps the fall portion of its schedule this weekend at the City Six Tournament.
