PHILADELPHIA - It was the tale of two halves for the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team on Monday night at Hagan Arena as it hosted former Hawk great Muffet McGraw '77 and her No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. After a strong first half in which the Hawks trailed just 39-34 at the break, their offense went cold in the second half as the Fighting Irish outscored SJU 52-21 en route to a 91-55 victory.
Falling behind 33-23 early in the second quarter, the Hawks (4-6) finished the period on an 11-6 run as senior Ciara Andrews hit a jumper at the buzzer for two of her team-high 13 points to bring her team within 39-34 at halftime.
That would be as close as Saint Joseph's would get from there though as the Fighting Irish (10-1) opened the third quarter on a 20-5 run to take a 59-39 advantage on a layup by Hannah Huffman with 1:48 to go.
Notre Dame held the Hawks to just 22.6 percent from the field (7-of-31) over the final 20 minutes, while it converted 20-of-33 (60.6 percent) in the half and 26-of-61 for the game (59 percent).
For the game, Saint Joseph's went 20-of-60 from the field and 3-of-15 from three-point range, while knocking down 12-of-17 from the foul line (70.6 percent). Andrews added three assists and a pair of rebounds to go with her 13 points, while junior forward Amanda Fioravanti finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Adashia Franklyn added eight points and four rebounds, matching her career-high in scoring.
At the other end, Notre Dame finished 3-of-7 from three-point range (42.9 percent), hit 16-of-18 from the foul line and finished with a 38-28 edge in rebounding. Marina Mabrey led five Notre Dame players in double figures with a game-high 18 points.
Saint Joseph's returns to action on December 28 as it hosts the Hawk Classic. The Hawks will face UMBC in the opener at 1 p.m. and will be follower by Central Michigan versus Rider.
