PRINCETON, N.J. – In an IC4A-qualifying performance, senior Jimmy Daniels crushed his previous collegiate-best time in the 10,000m at the Sam Howell Invitational, held at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium on Friday evening.
Daniels cruised to a third-place finish in a field of 17 in 30:06.04, a new PR by over 53 seconds as the senior went sub-31:00 for 10k for the first time in his collegiate career, including on the cross country trails. Daniels has competed in two races at this point in the outdoor season and has qualified for IC4As in both - the 5k, last weekend at the Colonial Relays, and the 10k.
Senior Dan Savage turned in a fourth-place finish in a field of 59 in the 5000m, crossing in a collegiate-best time of 14:47.50 to miss IC4A qualification by just 2.5 seconds. The race marked his first in the event since February of 2015.
Dave Garton flew through the 800m in 1:54.38, good for eighth in the field of 45. The junior missed qualifying for the IC4A Championships in the event by just .38 seconds.
Freshman Zach Michon clocked in with a 1500m time of 4:00.30, which earned eighth in the field of 37 and the top performance by a rookie.
In 9:44.10, sophomore John Podles earned 12th in the 3000m steeplechase in the field of 20.
Saint Joseph's returns to action tomorrow, April 8, at the Rider Invitational. Events are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
