Savage, Doaty Close Season at NCAA East Preliminary Rounds

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Saint Joseph's senior Dan Savage placed 39th in the 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Rounds quarterfinal on Friday evening. The race marked Savage's first appearance at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, held at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex.

Racing out of the second of three total heats, Savage crossed the finish line in a time of 9:20.16. The top 12 finishers in the field of 48 will now advance to the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, to be held at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. from June 7-10.

Savage still has one more season of outdoor eligibility in Spring 2018.

After cruising to a season-best 400m hurdles time of 52.02 in the first round on Thursday evening, senior Torey Doaty was disqualified in Friday's quarterfinal. Doaty caps one of the most decorated men's track and field careers in recent memory, which includes three consecutive trips to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Rounds for the 400m hurdles.

With this evening's performances, Saint Joseph's 2017 outdoor track and field season comes to a close.
