Miler Michon Leads Men's Track at Ocean Breeze

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore Zach Michon recorded a third-place, IC4A-qualifying mile performance to lead the Saint Joseph's men's track and field squad at the Penn 8-Team Select, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Saturday evening. The Hawks placed eighth with 11 total points.

Michon cruised through the mile in 4:12.28, the fastest time of his collegiate career at this point, to earn the third-place finish in a field of 43 milers. Racing out of the first heat, Michon edged out Penn's Elias Graca (4:12.41) and Kevin Monogue (4:12.55) to earn six points for the Crimson and Gray.

The time, which was over three seconds faster than his time at the same facility just two weekends ago for the Wagner College Invitational, meets IC4A qualification for the 2018 IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships in March.

Saint Joseph's 4x400m relay of freshman Sebastian Eaton, sophomore Trae' Robinson, sophomore Aaron Lemma, and senior Kenny Evely earned a fourth-place finish in a field of 15 relay groups with a time of 3:20.05. The performance earned four points for the Hawks.

Dylan Eddinger added SJU's final scoring performance as the junior ran a season-best 800m time of 1:54.86, which was good for sixth in a field of 33 and one point for the Crimson and Gray.

Also of note out of the non-scoring performances, junior Rory Houston ran a collegiate-best 800m time of 1:55.17 to place seventh, closely behind Eddinger. Senior Dan Ferraiolo (800m, 1:55.49) and Evely (400m, season-best 50.09), finished eighth in their respective events while senior David Dorsey broke though with a PR, registering a collegiate-best 3000m time of 8:30.92 for 10th in a field of 38.

The Hawks will compete at two different meets next weekend as SJU heads to the Penn State National Open at Penn State University's Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in University Park, Pa. from Friday, January 26 to Saturday, January 27 as well as the Monmouth Winter Invitational at Monmouth University's OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, N.J. on Saturday, January 27. The Penn State National Open is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the start time for the Monmouth Winter Invitational is TBA.
