PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's baseball team saw its three-game winning streak stopped on Saturday as La Salle came away with a 10-2 win at Hank DeVincent Field. James McConnon led the Hawks with four hits on the day.
Saint Joseph's (11-12 overall, 2-4 Atlantic 10) got on the board in the first inning once again as Charlie Concannon tripled and came in to score on a double by McConnon.
La Salle (6-19 overall, 1-5 Atlantic 10) took its first lead of the series in the bottom half of the inning, however, on a three-run home run by Ben Faso.
The Hawks had chances in the innings that followed, putting runners on base in every frame except for the ninth, but it was the Explorers that struck next as a solo home run by Brian Dudeck made it a 4-1 game after five.
McConnon led off the top of the sixth with a double and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Kadar Namey, but the Explorers put the game away in the bottom of the seventh, turning three hits, two walks, and a hit batsman into six runs to set the final margin.
Colin Kennedy earned the win for La Salle, allowing two runs on eight hits and a walk in six innings. Justin Aungst took the loss, going five innings and allowing four runs on six hits. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.
The Hawks will host Lafayette on Tuesday in the Liberty Bell Classic semifinals before visiting Bucknell on Wednesday.
