Baseball Goes Down to Delaware, 10-2

MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to Delaware, 10-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Smithson Field.  Langston Livingston scored both runs for the Hawks on the day and hit his second home run of the season.

Delaware (23-20) took the lead with two outs in the first on a two-run single by Calvin Scott.  The Blue Hens added two more in the fourth on a ground-rule double by Tyler Callender and a sacrifice fly by Kevin Mohollen.

After loading the bases in the third, Saint Joseph's (16-24) got on the board in the fourth.  Walks to Livingston and Marc Giacalone and a single by Brian Markoski loaded the bases with one out for Vince Capone, whose sacrifice fly scored Livingston to cut the deficit to 4-1.

UD responded, however, with three in the fifth on singles by Diaz Nardo, Callender, and Ben Werkheiser to push the lead to 7-1; an unearned run in the sixth would then make it 8-1.

Livingston led off the bottom of the sixth for the Hawks with his second home run of the season to make it an 8-2 game, but Callender hit a two-run double in the seventh to set the final margin in favor of the visitors.

Nick Spadafino earned the win for Delaware after allowing a run on three hits and four walks in five innings.  Jordan DiValerio allowed two runs in three innings and was charged with the loss.

The Hawks have a bye from conference play this weekend, but will be in action against NJIT on Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday's game will be at NJIT, while Sunday's contest will be held at Smithson Field.
