Box Score WILMINGTON, Del. – A second straight slow start cost the University of the Sciences men's basketball team in a 92-61 loss at Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday evening.
USciences went scoreless for the first 5:58 and found themselves down 11-0.
The Devils got as close as five, 13-18, on a Jordan White 3-pointer with 10:35 left in the first half, but the Lightning responded with seven unanswered to make it a double-digit lead for good.
Freshman Connor Murphy led all players with nine rebounds and added a team-high 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting to fall just shy of a fifth double-double.
University of the Sciences outrebounded Goldey-Beacom 36-30, helping the Devils to a 15-7 edge in second-chance points.
Fellow freshman Thomas Melonja was one point behind Murphy with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
No other Devils scored more than five points.
Paddy Casey had team-highs of four assists and three steals.
Goldey-Beacom shot 59.7 percent from the field (37-of-62) and held USciences to 34.4 percent shooting (21-of-61), while forcing 22 Devils turnovers which led to a 38-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
University of the Sciences returns home for the first time in two weeks when it hosts Chestnut Hill this Saturday at 3 p.m.
